"Because of charitable gifts from donors like you, we had yet another, record-breaking year in 2016 with 3,390 orphan cats and dogs finding their forever homes. We’re grateful for your support in making this possible. The Center works with over 40 transfer partners to rescue orphans that are running out of time and options. 95% of the pets we take into our care come from these often overcrowded facilities, but then we are able to provide them with food, shelter, medical care, and that second chance at finding a forever home. Your gift gives us the resources to care for some of the most vulnerable pets, like this young kitten who was literally, thrown away:
Lego was found frantically crying by a person just passing by the area. She was hidden by a lot of fur, which was troubling and a little strange. Upon further investigation, the person discovered that Lego was keeping herself warm under the bodies of her dead family. Her siblings and mother had all died in their sleep, huddled together, likely of poison, and only little Lego was left alive. She was taken away from that horrible scene and placed in a Lego box, then brought to us. She was the only one left in her family…
When Lego arrived at the Center, she was underweight, dehydrated and very frail. We knew that her chances of survival would greatly increase if she had siblings to keep warm with, and it just so happened we had a litter of orphaned kittens fit for the job, but would they accept her?
It became obvious that Libra and Pisces accepted little Lego immediately. She was drawn into the warm, sleepy kitten pile and dozed off with her new “adopted” siblings. Together, they ate, slept, and played until they were old enough to find their forever homes.
Lego’s life was saved because of your dedicated support. Thank you again for your very generous gift and for making a difference."
